Alpha Course at CUMC starts Oct. 3

We would like to invite you to join us for the Alpha Course at Covina United Methodist Church. Alpha is a 10-week, introduction to the Christian faith starting Thursday, October 3 to December 5 from at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. Each evening in the course begins a video presentation, and ends with an opportunity to discuss questions and issues.

Alpha is an opportunity to explore a variety of topics in an informal setting. Expect to enjoy great company and at time, good food with lots of laughter and learning.  Bring your questions: Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?

First taught in 1976 for new Christians attending Holy Trinity Brompton church in central London. Today Alpha Courses are offered in churches, schools, prisons, and so far, has been adopted in 169 countries, run in 112 languages, with a cumulative 22.5 million people taking the course.  There are over 5000 churches offering Alpha Course in the United States in almost every denomination.  The mission of Alpha is: “We equip and serve the Church in its mission to help people discover and develop a relationship with Jesus through Alpha.”

Alpha is for anyone…anyone who thinks there may be more to life than meets the eye. People attend from all backgrounds, religions, and viewpoints. They come to investigate questions about the existence of God, the purpose of life, the afterlife, the claims of Jesus and more. Some people want to get beyond religion and find a relationship with God that really changes life. Others come for the close, long-lasting friendships that are built during the Alpha course. Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. Everyone is welcome.
